$h!t $h!t $h!t, I hate this. Picked up a really good book the other day, and spent the next 24 hours reading it. And I'd already been up for a while before running some errands in town [where I noticed the book], so it was more like 30-something hours of uninterrupted consciousness. Yes I've slept since then, and the eyestrain has mostly faded to a dull throbbing around the temples, not exactly an ache any more.
Good books don't help me get to sleep, btw. Bad ones don't either, because I'll simply put them down unfinished. But a *really* good book will f*ck with my head relentlessly. I'm thinking of sending the author a fan-letter that begins `Thanks for the splitting headache.' [and then goes on to actually say some nice things about the story, of course]
Anyway, it's William Gibson's `
Zero History'. Read at your own risk.
I'll most likely read this one again some time, at a more leisurely pace, but should probably just stick to movies for a while.
Cheers,
Patrick.
