Candi Random *Fact Thread

So yeah, I'm drawing the comic and all these little tidbits about the comic pop through my head and I realize that there are somethings that I would probably never mention in the comic, but I think would be interesting to know. So this thread is for me to share some random bits of Candi info
whenever I get the urge to. Enjoy!

-Alex's hair changes direction on a whim. It just does. No explanation for it.
-Candi wears contacts lenses. She puts on glasses every once in a while. But its rare.
-Candi's middle name is Jane.
-Candi and Jon went on 1 date in 9th grade. Although she thought about it, Candi wasn't interested in him after that. She does know, however, that Jon still likes her. She chooses to ignore it.
-Jon's had several girlfriends in high school, so he's not totally just pinning for Candi.
-Candi's original hair color was light green. But pink looked better.
-Candi's hair is naturally pink within the story context. Her mom has darker red hair and her dad had blonde hair. So its a weird mix of color theory and genetics.
-Linda got blue hair because the girl I based her on liked Disney's Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) in the blue dress at the end of the movie. I preferred her in the pink one. We argued about this for over an hour.
-I can't explain Trevor's hair. I assume its genetics too because his dad has blue-ish hair, and his mother, has brown... but, Trevor is also the kind of character who would like dying his hair like that.

I initially gave Trevor that hair because the guy I based him off of liked the idea of it.

Character Scents:
Laura- lavender
Linda- licorice
Jon- Soap and something sweet
Trevor- Insense
Jess- Cocoa Butter or Baby oil
Alex- Detergent and After-shave
Candi- Cookies

Character Colors:
Laura tends to wear things in purple. It's her thing.
Candi prefers light pastel colors. She likes green and pinks.
Jessica likes bright solid colors. Lots of red.
Linda tends to stick with the blue range.
Trevor prefers dark colors, blues, and greys.
Alex likes solid 'old' colors. Like brick reds, mustard yellows, navy blue... etc.
Jon prefer blues and greens.

I originally had another strip with this conversation written out to follow March 25, 2005 's 's strip. But I had scratched it because I wanted to move the story along faster. (This is why I need to try and make it a daily comic). But anyway, here's the missing strip's dialogue:

P1- Alex (on phone): What was that?
Candi: Jon said he'd go with me.

P2- Alex: Oh! Well then there you go. Problem fixed.
Candi (on phone): Well, yeah. But I wanted you to go...

P3. Alex: Why? You think Jon will try something?
Candi (while looking at Jon read his book): No, he wouldn't. You know that.

P4. Alex: So... then what's the big deal?
Candi: I just... you know, nevermind. It's okay. I know you need to study...

Candi Jane is such a cute name! I had no idea Candi acknowledged Jon liking her, and is that kind of wrong for her to hug on him and stuff knowing he has unrequited love for her?

Yeah, I'd say it's kind of mean in a way, but kind of not. I mean, Jon knows the score, and if it's really bothering him, he should say something, and I don't expect her to know exactly how it affects him. He seems to like it at least half the time (except now that he's with Rebecca), and she certainly enjoys it.

One thing is that he may not know that Candi knows... so he may be reluctant to say anything. The overlap between her and Alex's relationship on the one hand, and his and Rebecca's on the other, complicates the issue somewhat. But she DID basically ask permission after he started dating Rebecca, and he granted it... so he really has nobody to blame but himself.

Having been in Jon's position (really wanting to be in a romantic relationship with someone and having them know that, but not want the same thing), I don't think Candi's being mean at all. Not all physical contact is predicated on having a romantic relationship, and I don't ever get the sense that Candi crossed the line from "good friend" contact into anything sexual...

Yeah, I've been in that situation before. Candi could do a LOT worse to Jon if she wanted to.

I have a friend I have a crush on and he doesn't return the feelings, and we're very cuddly and over the top flirty and that's just how our friendship is. I don't feel like he's crossing a line with that since neither of us is dating anyone. We would most likely change it a bit if one of us was seeing someone.

There can also be the other end of the scale where it makes you awkward around each other..Having seen both ways i'd say Candi isn't doing anything wrong - just the opposite by not letting it make her awkward around him but at the same time allowing him to say she needs to back off if it's not working for him she's HELPING keep their friendship natural as possible.

This is one of those situations where, you just have to understand the people. This may not work for everyone, because people may assume more than there is, but it seems like Candi and Jon have found a balance.

Recently started reading (Actually 5 days ago)(& finnaly catched up)
In the short time I've been reading this, I thought Trevor & Candi died their hair (Geneticly pink hair should be possible but the genes don't exist for it so it doesn't happen in real life)(Al tough I don't mind I love characters with unnatural hair colors)

I have a question for Starline. How many years have you been writing Candi? I know I've been reading for a LONG time but I don't know what year it started exactly.

Writing/Developing? 2002. But the first comic was posted in 2004. So it will be 10 years old in June.
