Talk about the comic

Almost everyone graduates 7/25/2016

I know it's not a new comic, but I figured the blog update warranted a topic.

I don't think any of us are surprised. The update schedule has been so spotty for quite awhile now. From the May update, I'm guessing she wanted to try getting back into it, and has just realized that her heart isn't into it.

I do hope that, if Candi is done for good, she'll do what a lot of other artists have done and put a more detailed summary than "almost everyone graduates". Just a few paragraphs would be nice. Obviously she doesn't have to. It was a great comic while it lasted, and 12 years is a long time to work on something as a labor of love.

Thank you for all the great comics, Starline!

We could well be looking at a sort of series of epilogue strips that tell us where everyone else is right now. Johnston did it for For Better Or For Worse. Anyway, no use doing something you're not into any longer. You do that and you become a time-server like Batiuk turning out garbage just so he can get a nifty gold watch from his Syndicate seven years from now.

I was hoping for more of a resolution, but what can you do.

Use your own judgment and the clues she's given to figure out where the characters are going. As by way of example, the 'almost' tells ME that Linda is going to get her ass kicked out of school for doing something stupid.

It's a shame. Candi is my favorite webcomic. I wish Starline all the best in whatever she does, she's talented and funny and I've really enjoyed getting to know the gang. Just seeing Candi stand up to Alex and tell him off was all I ever really needed all along, so that came a long time ago.

I once dreamed of 20 years or more, cancer has taken that away, so it's not like I'll see any epilogue strips but I can tell where (mostly) the strips are going.

God bless you all, and God bless Starline.

I'm still in denial about this update, I don't want Candi to end! I'd read from unfinished sloppy sketches if I had to haha. But I understand that such a long run can take it's toll on anyone, especially since Starline is so busy with life. I agree with Sylvanaerie, this was also my favourite webcomic. It's the only one I would consistently check up on since about 2011 or 2012 when I was still an undergrad.

I'll always cherish this comic, and thanks to Starline for all the years with a highly entertaining comic. Thanks to forum members to always providing good discussion with every panel, I was always happy to check in every now and again and see heated debates for every strip.

"Almost everyone graduates."

Of those who don't graduate my first guess is Jon. From the few things he has said about it he just isn't that into his studies and other than hang out at Sea World and watch girls he has no direction (don't have time to look up the conversation with Candi, or whomever, where he said this). He will continue going for a while but after he gets tired of Jess and her emotional distance (see this comic) I don't think he has much keeping him in school.

I dunno. Jon's grades never sounded like he was in trouble. My guess is he's a drop out.

Given that they all live in a scholarship house and need to hit certain grades to stay, I don't think any of them really have poor grades. The possible exception would be Trevor, who k7ght be able to count on his parents' name/money to keep him in.

My guess (my real guess, not he silly one I did in the other thread) is that Linda drops out in a year or so after making so many people dislike her that she's just not comfortable on campus anymore. And maybe Trevor, as a "fuck you" to his dad.

My money is on Laura not graduating from burning candles at both ends unless she gets a hail Mary from Trevor's mom to help her sister. But Linda would be my second choice and Trevor, my third, although I only think that last will happen if Matt ditches him. As a wild card, I might see Alex dropping out because he's finally forced to deal with Grandma himself, can't, and rage-quits to 'show' her.

Jon, on the other hand, will probably graduate and then have no idea what to do with his degree. That seems to be how he rolls. Then again, he seems to have turned a corner, no longer mooning over Candi, so maybe his drive will pick up, too. he wouldn't be the first person to suddenly stumble upon what he really wants to do in an odd place (as far as his original aspirations go) on campus.

Candi will likely hook up with Chris, then dump him, because even though Chris has his financial head on straight, I suspect being romantically faithful is not in him or will at least be a great struggle, and Candi's already been burned. Candi seems to have a talent for gravitating towards bad romantic choices. At least we have an idea what will happen to her: graduate, and then be kind of at sea.
