I imagine it might blow up or "stir the pot" if Dad finds out that Mom paid for Trevor's trip after telling Dad to stop giving him money, and then again when she accidentally spills the beans about the trip being to see a guy he's in love with.

Because this is still the fall semester. Matt says they'll be in London "for a couple weeks in a few days," so they definitely won't be there during Spring Break.

I imagine Matt decided on something concrete in advance to make sure Trevor had a chance to make it. That said, I'm not sure I like Matt asking Trevor to visit at all. Even with a couple months to plan, a trip to Europe would be expensive enough for someone with a full-time job who didn't also need to pay university costs, let alone a student with a part-time job. And obviously Trevor can't manage it, since he has to ask his mom for help. Way to go, Matt.

Gonna change my answer to "Because Matt will be in Paris right after London? If it's early in the spring semester, there's a few weeks until Spring Break, so he'll have moved on to France by then."

Of course, that makes what I said about this being short notice even worse. How the hell is Matt affording this? Did we find out at some point that he's decently well-off or something?

I'd need to look it up to be sure but the way I remember it, Matt acknowledged he likely couldn't but offered for Trevor to come out and visit if possible way back before he left. I can't remember but they may have even talked about spring break being the only possible time it could have a remote chance of working out. I get the sense that Matt is just mentioning his travel plans as a friendly reminder if that was secretly being planned. You're right, it's not very cool and gives little notice. I kind of think that it's not so much that Matt is rich but that Matt was used to Trevor being rich and hasn't fully adjusted to him not being so anymore. My guess is that back when Trevor was really rich Matt would feel uncomfortable asking for something outright but would let drop things that would be nice and Trevor would surprise him with some of those things from time to time. Matt's still dropping hints while forgetting it's not really an option anymore.

Matt's covered under the program he applied for. So it's just costing him a regular semester's worth of courses.
