I think the key difference boils down to the reasons they both react this way. Candi's is because she was screwed over, firstly by her absentee father, then Linda/Alex (and no telling who else added to that can of worms). She reacts by putting up walls to protect herself from getting too close. Linda's is because she thinks everyone is out to get everyone else (like her former 'friend' from school), and it's 'screw over the other guy before he screws you'. And we all saw what she does.
