I doubt it, could be she just blurted it out to quickly shut down a lunch invite and that was merely her choice of words. I myself can sometimes blurt details that aren't wholly necessary when I'm trying to get my point across.

Yeah, to me it comes across as something she'll regret wording the way she did but it just slipped out. My guess would be that she was hungry and ate a little something to tide her over until lunch. She wanted to be honest to his first question while at the same time have a reason to turn him down. So instead of going into the fact that she was still planning on eating a little something for lunch, she focuses on the fact that she DID already eat and wasn't interested in having lunch with him. But she's going to regret wording it that way because it gives him an excuse to push her to eat a little something more with him.

Yay for character development!! I think Alex is due for some. Maybe Candi will clue-by-four him and he will start taking some responsibility for his choices.

Only if he's able to control the conversation. Candi hasn't been letting him get away with that kind of crap for a long time now.

I never have been, myself, I felt it was the kind of joshing close associates get into, mildly irritating one another. Maybe getting called "Doc" all the time has inured me.

As Chris has eased up on the nicknames and used her real name more and more it seems to bother her less anyway. I think it's a non-issue now but was at least slightly irritating as part of a moderately irritating package of other obnoxious things he was doing before. Which totally makes sense. I think before college they were more like acquaintances or friends of friends than any kind of deep friendship. Now he's been there for her more than once and they have a legitimate friendship outside of any other friends. When you're closer to someone, that kind of playful teasing feels more playful and less teasing. It's mostly obnoxious when coming from someone who doesn't know you that well and can't seem to take a hint when they're starting to cross a line.

Meh, even if she doesn't "let him get away with that kind of crap," it'll still annoy her that he tried. Honestly, I think she's going to give in and meet up with him to talk (perhaps she won't eat lunch with him but I do think she'll give in a bit). Starline is clearly building up to something so it can't just end right here.
ShadeTail wrote:Of course it would annoy her. It's annoying her *right now*. But there is no reason to think she is going to give in to him, considering how she hasn't been giving in for close to a year of comic-time. It would be an unrealistically sudden change in character for her to start letting Alex have his way, and Starline is better than that when it comes to story and character.

Starline's the writer; Chris calls Candi what Starline decides Chris will call Candi. So obviously it doesn't make Starline indignant, or she'd change it.
However, it may be an echo something in Starline's past that did irritate her.
(But I think referring to Starline by the names of various interstellar-spacecraft-operating companies would be geeky to the point of hopeless obscurity.)
