I doubt it, could be she just blurted it out to quickly shut down a lunch invite and that was merely her choice of words. I myself can sometimes blurt details that aren't wholly necessary when I'm trying to get my point across.

Yeah, to me it comes across as something she'll regret wording the way she did but it just slipped out. My guess would be that she was hungry and ate a little something to tide her over until lunch. She wanted to be honest to his first question while at the same time have a reason to turn him down. So instead of going into the fact that she was still planning on eating a little something for lunch, she focuses on the fact that she DID already eat and wasn't interested in having lunch with him. But she's going to regret wording it that way because it gives him an excuse to push her to eat a little something more with him.

Only if he's able to control the conversation. Candi hasn't been letting him get away with that kind of crap for a long time now.

What are you talking about? The shading's still there. Either that or there was a quick fix.

I'm pleased that Candi isn't putting up with his distractions and is being quite firm. I like Candi with a back bone that doesn't give in to him on a whim. Yay for character development!! I think Alex is due for some. Maybe Candi will clue-by-four him and he will start taking some responsibility for his choices.

You can tell this comic strip is a few days old, Alex has grown a five o'clock shadow ;-)

Heh, as I was reading the latest comments, I was struck by the first time ( I know, I am slow) that all the "ranks" for this Forum are candy-themed: Gumball Boss, Chocolate Champion, etc. And for the first time it struck me, maybe Starline is not as indignant about Chris calling Our Heroine by candy-related nicknames as some here? I never have been, myself, I felt it was the kind of joshing close associates get into, mildly irritating one another. Maybe getting called "Doc" all the time has inured me. :D

I tend to go into details at random moments, especially when it comes to food. I thought this was normal. :P

This would be good, as Alex needs a lot of clue-by-fours to the head to maybe help straighten him out, which he needs a lot of.

Meh, even if she doesn't "let him get away with that kind of crap," it'll still annoy her that he tried. Honestly, I think she's going to give in and meet up with him to talk (perhaps she won't eat lunch with him but I do think she'll give in a bit). Starline is clearly building up to something so it can't just end right here.

As Chris has eased up on the nicknames and used her real name more and more it seems to bother her less anyway. I think it's a non-issue now but was at least slightly irritating as part of a moderately irritating package of other obnoxious things he was doing before. Which totally makes sense. I think before college they were more like acquaintances or friends of friends than any kind of deep friendship. Now he's been there for her more than once and they have a legitimate friendship outside of any other friends. When you're closer to someone, that kind of playful teasing feels more playful and less teasing. It's mostly obnoxious when coming from someone who doesn't know you that well and can't seem to take a hint when they're starting to cross a line.

And as they have grown to know each other better, Chris has shown he is very supportive when she needs him to be, something someone with her trust issues needs in a friend. I like Chris a great deal. He can be obnoxious, but he is overall a sweet person.

Heh I used to call the physician I worked for "Doc" all the time and he never voiced any objections to me. I think it either was something he got used to long before I worked for him, or it was a nickname he didn't mind at all. It was never said with anything less than the highest of regard and respect and I was always professional in his office. I really miss that job, but he'd be retired by now anyway.

Of course it would annoy her. It's annoying her *right now*. But there is no reason to think she is going to give in to him, considering how she hasn't been giving in for close to a year of comic-time. It would be an unrealistically sudden change in character for her to start letting Alex have his way, and Starline is better than that when it comes to story and character.

Maybe I'm not following you. What do you mean by not giving in? There have only been a few interactions with Alex in quite some time, that I recall. He tried calling her after his breakup with Linda and she decided not to answer because she had just spent time with him and his grandma. On the one hand, I guess that's not giving in to what Alex wanted. On the other, she DID give in to having breakfast with him and his grandma (which she did NOT want to do). Of course that could be considered giving in to her MOM and not him, but this is a similar situation. His grandma and her mom both want her to get him to call her. If he says in the next comic, "Look, it's a long story. I'm headed to class. I'd rather talk about this in person, if you're really interested in why I'm not calling my grandma yet. Can we meet while I'm having lunch between my classes?" I don't think I'd see it as out of character for her to grudgingly meet with him to just get some resolution to the whole thing. In fact, I'd see it as out of character for her to insist that she is in no way going to meet with him in person about this and hang up. The only other fairly recent memory I have of their interactions was when he showed up at her place and Jon wanted to turn him away. In that case she decided to "give in" and meet with him.

Has there been any recent evidence of her not "giving in" to Alex? It seems to me that when Alex wants to talk she'll eventually talk. *shrug* Maybe I'm forgetting something.

Starline's the writer; Chris calls Candi what Starline decides Chris will call Candi. So obviously it doesn't make Starline indignant, or she'd change it.

However, it may be an echo something in Starline's past that did irritate her.

(But I think referring to Starline by the names of various interstellar-spacecraft-operating companies would be geeky to the point of hopeless obscurity.)

Or, Starline's just simply playing on Candi's name, and having a cute play on words with us. I mean, "Candy"? "Candi"? Everything candy themed is given to a poster the higher they go on their posts. I see nothing more to it... :P
