My guess is that he caught wind of his Abuela's scheme to get Candi and Alex back together and is purposely ignoring her because he's upset with her. Or something like that. I forget about how much he knows his grandmother was trying to get them back together. But I imagine him hding a grudge, perhaps even towards his on grandmother.

Edit: Just read through the Ya Tu Sabe arc and my thought still stands. I fee like he's annoyed with his Abelua for meddling in his relationship especially since Linda broke up with him soon after she left. He may blame her for what happened between him and Linda.

I also think it may be annoyance at the meddling, combined with some stung pride at how she had Linda pegged before he did. The really interesting thing, though, is that in that same story arc, it was pointed out that Alex had been calling Candi's mom fairly often, and now even that's stopped. Even for an oblivious douchebag like Alex, that seems like a pretty severe reaction.

Yeah, this is why I suspect it's something more than hurt pride, IMO. Before hearing from mom, I might have believed it, but now I am starting to think something else is likely going on.

I didn't think it was a big deal before this comic, but if Abuela is already getting Candi's mom to try to call Alex, and only now Candi, it sounds like Abuela is about a step away from calling the police. I really can't blame her for that reaction. Even someone going into study-mode has to turn their phone on eventually, and then get their voice mail when the phone turns back on.

This seems kind of weird. Can't wait to see what's up.

I'm not sure what's up with Alex, but I doubt that he's in super-study mode with his phone off. From what Candi's mom said, it sounds like this has been a couple days, at least. Possibly longer. I find it hard to believe he hasn't turned his phone on for days, and even turning it on or a few minutes would be enough for him to find out he's got voicemails from Abuela. Either he's purposefully ignoring her, or something's wrong.
