This isn't the most important detail of the episode, but I like Candi's shirt! It's cute, and a nice change from the solid colors the cast usually wears. The expressions in this strip were spot-on too. Totally conveyed Candi's thought process without the need for words.

For the non-Spanish speaking viewers here, can someone please provide a translation for what Abuelita is saying? Aside from the first two words, I'm at a complete loss. From the forum topic I'm guessing she's saying where is her grandson, and he hasn't called me. But those are just my guesses.

Since he's apparently been fairly religious about calling her, this might actually be a legitimate reason for concern. One assumes she tried calling Alex before turning to Candi. Assuming it's not a plot on her part to get Candi and Alex together again.

YAY I can read and post now!

Ahhh It's my favorite horror movie "Return of the Drama Troll" aka "Abuela Strikes Back". The only character with the singular distinction of having made me feel sorry for both Alex and Linda. A rare happenstance.

It could be Alex is either screening her calls because he doesn't want to tell her he broke up with Linda--leading to a lot of "I told you so's" and "now you can hook up with Candi again's"--because, heaven forbid she should actually be empathetic and supportive of his feelings. Or maybe he's aware of the direct cause and effect she had on his relationship taking a nosedive and the ego bruising he received in the breakup and doesn't want to speak to her.

Or, the drama troll could be fishing for information "Did you show Alex the picture? Have you hooked back up with my grandson?" etc.

It occurs to me we haven't seen Alex since the one strip where he was playing video games with Nate after Candi told him to leave her out of it. Can anyone recall seeing him since then? While I doubt he is crying over much about Linda, the blow to his ego would have him smarting for a time. It may be he's a bit depressed because of it?

On another note, I really, really like the pic in panel 3. I love Candi's eyes and the more detailed illustration of her hand. Hands are the hardest thing for me to draw myself and when someone does one nicely I immediately notice, especially since Starline usually doesn't go into much detail drawing hands (as the 2 previous panels illustrate). I even like the way she drew the fleshy part of the palm extending down from the pinky finger.

Oh man, does this mean that Abuela doesn't know that Alex and Linda aren't together anymore? Is she going to talk to Alex and try to say "good thing Candi broke you two up, now get back together and give me great-grandbabies!" ? (Remember, she wanted Candi to use the camera with "evidence" to break them up) Is Candi going to stutter and say "Hello. Yes. Thank you. No I don't want to." in spanish and hope she understands?

I imagine Alex told her that he and Candi are still good friends despite the breakup. Besides, if she isn't able to contact him, who else would she call? Even if Candi hasn't seen him, I imagine Abuela could ask her (more like tell her) to drop by his place and try to catch him in person.

Another thought occurred to me. Did Michael or Bianca give any general time frame of when they were getting married? With the start of the next semester/year I wonder if he even still lives there. With Nate being a slob and Michael possibly gone, if Alex is in a depressed place Candi might swing by his place to find that it is a total pig sty. Remember how Trevor reached the point he was not showering and stinking up the place when he got depressed (or was that Jon)? If that were to happen, I hope Candi doesn't end up feeling too sorry for him, though.

"Dearie". A feminized term of endearment. Quite literally 'my little girl'. But admittedly, it's been over 3 decades since I took 2 years of Spanish in high school.
