See, that's one thing, and not to stomp on your interpretation of the matter, but it's something I disagreed with most of you about on the last strip. I didn't consider a simple comment of 'I'll assume it went bad' as manipulative or pushing. More a commentary on how it made her feel and think. I'll often shove my foot in my mouth making comments like that at times like that too, that are then misinterpreted.
As clever as it is to draw parallels between Katia and Linda, and I do see it, I think somehow this conversation has made people forget that Katia is NOT Linda. We're seeing two sides of a coin, and that must follow that they're going to have their differences because they've grown and responded differently to their similar situations in the past. Where Linda turned into the wicked witch of the East, Katia chose to grow, learn, and better her own self as a person.
I'm not saying she's perfect, I just don't see her being capable of the crafty manipulation it takes to force Thad to have a conversation he clearly doesn't want to have. Katia hasn't been deceitful with him, yet, to my recollection.
And even if she had, that absolutely does not call for him jumping down her throat and cutting her down about her most vulnerable area. That was an absolute verbal attack launched because he was embarrassed that she so effectively saw behind his layers of mystery. (Especially without even trying.) And it takes true maturity, to be able to look a raging bull in the face and say, "Nope."
That's why it's worthy of praise. She's the one not taking bait, she's the one who values herself enough to know what she does and does not deserve to be treated like.

Katia made the right call in leaving, but, she definitely erred first here.
Ultimately though, neither are awful people. They're just doing less than optimal things as humans are want to do.

Seriously, Katia gets a pass for her awful behavior the whole time, and then when she finally ticks Thad off - suddenly he's the bad guy?
Why are people making so many excuses for Katia?
