Maybe there was no date in the first place.

I remember how dumb-smart Thad has acted in the past. He wrote a report about kittens and stuff to influence the teacher/his grade. He might have gotten the thought - "if I make Katia jealous, then she might finally decide to end this open relationship thingy" while talking with her and just went with it in the heat of the moment. Now, halfway deep he can't go out and say there was no date ("because she will leave me forever bla bla"), so he hesitates and tries to just let the subject matter die.

Not as likely as Thad having a date, but still, I think it bears mentioning since we haven't seen anything of this mystery girl.
Please correct me, if I missed any concrete evidence of him dating someone outside of hearsay.

Tad had sex with Katia after just having lunch with her one time. I wouldn't call it out of his character to have a go in the first date.

Especially if he was feeling fairly rejected by Katia.

I don't remember this, but I don't doubt it could have happened due to Katia's desire for free for all sex. Could you link it for me? All I remember was Katia talking about how she slept with Alex and telling Thad she didn't want to be exclusive.

I thought I remembered it happening after the picnic by the lake but in looking back it may have just been a kiss or make out session. I think the next time they are shown together is at the Halloween party. Again, I thought I remembered they had sex again but it looks like it was a bit more ambiguous than I remembered. Then after the party, the next we see of Katia is her asking advice on how to prevent getting serious with Thad. So as far as I can tell, either she never had sex with him or she did and then immediately after started asking how to move on to new guys. My guess is that she DID have sex at the party but not on the date but once she had sex, she realized he might be taking it more serious than she'd intended. You'd think after what happened with Alex that she'd be more clear on what she wanted before having sex, but I guess not.

I assumed they had sex especially since she asks Laura how to keep it from getting serious, and to broach the subject with Thad. It could be construed as just an intense make out session, but his deep blush implies more?

I'm not sure why people are so willing to call Katia a bitch. Is she being manipulative? Mildly. But Thad is a big boy. And she's not standing over him with a baseball bat.

I haven't called her a bitch. but its certainly a bully tactic. Thad has made clear he does not wish to talk about it. and so she should leave it be.

Also if it were the other way around people would be at Thad's throat. It's really not cool of her to try and manipulate this outta him.

Why can't it be both? And while I'm asking questions, why are so many people enthusiastically jumping to conclusions about this? I guess it's possible that nearly five real-time years of character development are about to be thrown out the window when it is revealed that Katia isn't the naive and over-enthusiastic kid she's been portrayed as, but I don't understand why some of you are so certain of that.

What conclusions are being jumped to? That she is pushing someone's buttons to get what she wants regardless of the other person's feelings? I don't see that as a real change in Katia's development. She has run roughshod over Candi's wishes then when called on it retreats behind the "Oh, poor me! I'm so shy!" excuse.

And from what I have seen on this board in the past Lady O is spot on. I really do believe that if the roles were reversed Thad would have many brand-new holes torn in his gormless ass.

Manipulation by virtue of foot in mouth syndrome, while true, it is manipulative, but the tone of the manipulation alters by virtue of it being unintentional--at least not consciously intentional.

I think Katia, while at times obtuse and even blunt because that mouth engages before the brain cells do, is at heart a genuinely kind person.

But that's the thing, I'm not convinced that it is intentional. Some people really are that clueless about how to interact with others.

The conclusion you're jumping to is that she is doing this intentionally (which would imply she's doing it *maliciously*). You're absolutely right that she's behaved that way before, but this is the first time since her introduction that any of the other characters have actually called her out on it. So why would she think it was inappropriate since nobody ever told her before?

This is what I think as well - and I think people are letting the recently-unearthed parallels between her and Linda colour their perceptions a bit.
