Why can't it be both? And while I'm asking questions, why are so many people enthusiastically jumping to conclusions about this? I guess it's possible that nearly five real-time years of character development are about to be thrown out the window when it is revealed that Katia isn't the naive and over-enthusiastic kid she's been portrayed as, but I don't understand why some of you are so certain of that.

Or I'm pointing out that even if it's intentional or not that people would waste no time in screaming at Thad and demanding his head on a pike.

That's nice, but I haven't been addressing that issue at all.

I agree that it's possible she's just being "naive and over-enthusiastic" here. What's been jarring ever since the reveal that she used to be pessimistic is that it DOES feel a bit like a retcon.

I've seen plenty of people who were bubbly happy people because they've never seen much hurt or pain in life and so they are naive and oblivious to when they are hurting others. I've also seen bubbly happy people who have chosen to be so because they've seen a lot of hurt or felt a lot of anger and are consciously choosing not to go there anymore. Those two types of people have a different ... flavor?... to their bubbly happiness. It looks and feels different. And Starline tends to paint such nuanced characters that I'm surprised if she paints those two types the same.

It was particularly jarring when looking back about how she was confused when talking to Linda. Linda explains her pessimistic world view and Katia acts confused, like she never knew people like this existed...and then she states that she was like that. What was she confused about, then??? I would assume someone who used to be like that would instead respond with something like, "ooooh, I am starting to get you now. Deja vu! I used to be like that.

So is Linda totally foreign to Katia or is Linda totally reminiscent of herself? Sure, I guess in some ways it could be both, but if that's the case, then which parts are foreign and which parts are familiar?

I think some people are feeling certain Katia acted deliberately because otherwise it feels like she "jumped the shark" in her level of naivete and obliviousness. She JUST finished telling Linda that she's learned it's not helpful to assume the worst. She JUST finished telling Thad how his sharing about his date helps her and he JUST finished telling her that she can be selfish in thinking about what she wants without thinking about how others feel and then immediately after vocally assumes bad things about Thad's date without thinking about how it makes him feel (even when he just said how it makes him feel?)? That's a new level of obliviousness even for Katia. Sure, I can buy that Katia really is that clueless, but I can understand why others might not. It'd be like if Candi lamented about how she spilled the beans about Trevor and Matt dating, "Uggh! Why do I always do that?!" and then immediately after spills the beans about Jon making porn for money. Wait...what???

Katia may be ignorant about a lot of things but she's shown she's smart and can understand things when it's been explained to her. So why does she still go there when it's JUST been explained to her?

I'm curious why you don't like Thad so much, even when the other person is clearly in the wrong. Or is it just because he's a guy?
It's because he is a cowardly hysteric, a poltroon, and worse, a smart-aleck, which is even worse in a guy than in a woman.
There was a little girl who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead,
When she was good, she was very, very good,
But when she was bad, she was horrid!

Why is it worse in a guy?

Because to the public at large any emotion in men is bad and they don't get abused.

To the majority at least.
